Where and when was your character born or created?
Born in the year 1867 at Hokkaido, Seiji is cursed to age ten times slower upon birth to watch upon his family who ironically left a letter to him and abandoned him to a Catholic priest who know of his curse after the family cared for Ontarou for two whole years and saw little to no change in the kid and feared that he is a demon. The priest managed to care for the kid for sixty whole years before passing away.
How was growing up for your character?
To spend more than a century as a child, he faced many hardships as a ‘kid’. He spent years caring for the priest as he protects Ontarou for any potential dangers and in return, Ontarou did his very best as a kid to care for the priest in his final years.
There are happy moments by are overshadowed by the deaths of the priest and his family members which he found when he is 67, and that event made him think that this curse is barely a blessing at all, in which the priest constantly told him that his curse is really a blessing of longevity from God himself.
His final glance at his parents are an elderly couple on their deathbed and his siblings who only know of them by their parent’s words now look quite elderly themselves along with younger adults and children.
If it weren’t their parents recognizing that letter and the priest’s explanation of Ontarou’s curse on back of the letter, his own siblings might have already kicked him out way before, preventing him from reuniting with his dying parents. They did however chased him away after his parents died.
After all, looking the youngest despite being the first child seems very odd. He was also forbidden to keep in contact with them, but he still manage to keep in touch with his younger sibling’s descendants for a while. He lost contact with them after World War II.
Prior to World War II, Ontarou was experimented on by magical practitioners when they found out he ages very slowly. In an attempt to turn him immortal against his will, they turned him into a demon with blonde hair and dark red eyes. Ontarou is rendered almost unrecognizable and stood out with his appearance compared to his former appearance of black haired and dark hazel eyes.
And again, a curse is laid upon the curse he already had, this one much harder to explain. The night he was forcibly converted was the day a blue full moon occurred. September 30, 1936 where it caused him to go berserk, killing everyone that performed the act of conversion on him. For every moon phase to the full moon, Ontarou’s demonic side grows stronger and harder to control and for every moon phase to the new moon, it caused a reversed effect instead.
His demonic side allows him to turn any sound and voice that isn’t his into glass using his own voice, making anyone who speaks during this period to die due to glass materializing in their throats. It will most probably cut everyone is used in a noisy surrounding.
On full moons, Ontarou’s demonic side affects him greatly, and on new moons Ontarou’s appearance reverts to one of before he was converted, but only last for the days where there will be no moonlight. Lunar eclipses greatly affects his demonic powers and blue full moons made him almost demonic.
Forced to spend a majority of his life with a demonic appearance and where ten days is only one to him, he spend a majority of his life alone, fearing that if he spent too much time with someone mortal, they will die much sooner than him. Ontarou also spend his time killing low level demons that have manage to surface in his area.
He also manage to remain hidden during World War I, but have a slightly larger role in World War II where he is sent to be a spy at various places including Malaysia, Singapore, and Korea. The languages he knows are Japanese, French, Korean, English, Malay, Mandarin, Hokkien and Cantonese. It’s arranged by his proficiency in that language.
Does your character reflect their parent’s or guardian’s beliefs, or do they have their own set of principals?
Yes and no. Ontarou have his own set of believes and some of them are reflected from the priest that had raised him. Though being converted into a demon made him really paranoid on those who practice witchcraft as well as those who practices Wicca rituals. He has yet to kill any non-magical humans though.
Over the years, his believes do change though. He held a strong important to money after living in poverty for years, and it isn’t just physical money he uses to life in this world, but demonic money he got from killing demons.
Ontarou also started smoking after the priest died.
Is your character religious or not? How much of an impact does this have on their life?
Ontarou isn’t. He is at first since he was raised by a priest. But the years past and questions are asked and doubts surfaced, and it’s starting to become hard to keep a religion. He is especially afraid of religious people after his demonic conversion though..
Is romance a difficult topic for your character to think about?
Indeed it is… it’s hard when your significant other ages ten times faster than you now, doesn’t it? Ontarou is biromantic though if you are wondering of his romantic orientation, but having experience on that, he refuses to do that to any woman, believing it’s painful.
Does your character have a reputation? What is it?
Ontarou doesn’t really have much of a reputation in the world he lives in due to the fact he have to make an alias every few years to prevent the government from finding out that the boy born at 1867 is a teenager at 2014.
Though he did achieve some reputation with some of his aliases, most protecting people’s lives from demonic attacks, but of course that doesn’t last long since he looks the same for years and without knowing it, he had spent half of his life doing that.
In the demonic world however, he is pretty well known as a sweeper of any low leveled demons who manage to surfaced into this world. With a scythe as a weapon, he is named the Rookie’s Grip Reaper by some.
Your character’s greatest victory? Their most bitter defeat?
Perhaps protecting Sapporo from demons for the past 50 years is Ontarou’s greatest achievement, but his greatest victory is the year 1995 for defeating a really strong demon but of course, compared to higher level demons, that demon isn’t really that strong.
His most bitter defeat? The first few years of demon hunting has been hard on him, he was nearly killed by a gang of demons, it involves the possession of a few mortals as well, but he prevailed, barely. The scar hidden in the back of his neck is the memento.
Their battle style? Are they a pacifist?
Over the years, Ontarou slowly become less reliant on his voice and more on wielding a sharp glass scythe he wields. It’s a very sharp scythe that can cut through many things. Ontarou is capable of wielding old guns from World War II era as he had training from the Japanese military under one of his alias where he is aged 12. Though during that time he is kept low profile since kids learning firearms is uncommon.
He is a pacifist though when it comes to humans and humanoid demons to an extend, but still won’t hesitate from self-defense. He still prioritize on surviving unlike most immortal, but then again, those immortals live forever. Ontarou doesn’t.
He never really killed anyone with any weapon.
A quest your character has for anyone who asks for one?
Perhaps helping him out to clear out some demons as well as expelling possessed people in Hokkaido? There are times where there are tons of demons in an area that possesses humans in which Ontarou can’t do much unless it means killing someone.
